How to become an RDN?
To do so, you will need the following:
-
At the minimum, earn a graduate degree from an accredited Dietetics Program. Starting January 1, 2024, a Master’s degree is required to be eligible to take the RDN exam.
-
Complete a supervised practice requirement. This means individuals must complete at least 1,000 hours of supervised practice in a Dietetic Internship (DI) so as to apply gained knowledge and acquire real-world experience.
-
Pass a national exam for RDNs. After completing degrees and DI, you are able to schedule an appointment to take the Registration Examination for Registered Dietitians to be a credentialed Registered Dietetics Nutritionist.
-
Meet requirements to practice in your state. Each state has their own regulatory laws (i.e., licensure) for all field practitioners. All states accept RND credentials for licensure purposes.
-
Be in the know of Dietetics through continuing education. After passing the board and earning their credentials, RDNs stay up to date on research and ideal practices.
